    Wandering Jew or Tradescantia.

That's a purple tradescantia.  In older plant books they're called "wandering Jews."  They're easy to grow and easy to root cutting from.  They can get scrappy after a while.  If it gets too scrappy looking for you take cuttings from the ends, root them, and start again.
