Are people in the UK and Europe being given different types of Covid 19 vaccinations than people are in the US?

I heard people in the US are being given the J&J vaccine and people in the UK as well as the rest of Europe are approved to get the Astrazeneca vaccine. My guess is that the US didn't approve of the Astrazeneca vaccine. I am curious as to know and thank you.

Yes, that's largely true. What happened is the US govt had a deal w/Moderna beforehand and also jumped into a contract w/Pfizer. So most of the US vaccine supply is from those 2 companies. J&J and AZ's vaccines were favored by many EU countries, bcuz they didn't require sub-zero storage. But since then, J&J had some manufacturing problems and the AstraZ vaccine has raised concerns about side-effects. Due to that, Europe is lagging behind in vaccinations. But the US bought far more than we'll need, so part of that surplus will go to other countries, I'm sure.
