Since helium tends to lift things with its lighter-than-air properties, is it used to help with manual labour? ?

That would be an horrendously expensive way to provide lift. If possible we use a crane. If that is impossible a helicopter may be practical.

No. Once it lifts something up, how do you get it back down without using energy to pull it down?
