Can the company you work for give you a pay cut?

I’ve been at my current job for 4

years, and over this last year my team’s workload has tripled in a very short amount of time. One of the managers of our office proposed that we add another assistant  manager to our team to do the same functions that I do. Currently our team is 1 senior manager, 1 assistant manager, 7 reps. But the catch is that, me specifically, I would have to give away half of my incentives/bonuses away to the new hire because our company does commission share for only assistant managers. The concerning part is that, for me.. commission is 50% of my annual pay! I’d have to take a 25% pay cut to onboard a new hire, losing upwards of $20,000+ to my annual pay. I can and will not do that!

Yes.  And If you are currently doing the Assistant managers job...and they want to bring in a new person and give them your pay..

First - If you are doing that job already, you say " Make me the assistant manager and then hire a grunt at minimum wage to take my place."  If they will not do that ... they do not value you as am employee and it is time to find another job and leave.

Give you the job instead of hiring someone from outside the team who will HAVE to be trained...and may not work out after all...or you go somewhere that the boss will appreciate your work.

Time for a new job. It's this kind of company that won't have a future.

    Yes they can.

I guess you'll be looking for a new job.

Not sure what the problem is if your co-assistant manager has good sales numbers.

They can as long as you're still making at least minimum wage.  Your alternative is to find another job.

Top line answer is that yes, your company can cut your pay as long as what you still get paid after the cut meets minimum wage requirements. In your situation, if you would have to take a 25% pay cut and don’t want to, you would be free to seek new employment, but cannot stop them from adding another headcount and reducing your pay as a result.
