What makes a money drawing wrestler?

A money drawing wrestler is simply someone that people specifically come to see and buy their merchandise.  There are no other qualifications, and yet there hasn't been a money draw in wrestling for at least a decade now.  The criteria hasn't changed.  Hogan and Rock were draws.  They reasons they drew are ultimately the same.  They were charismatic wrestlers who could talk people into the building and put butts in seats.  Flashy in-ring work and pop culture trends need not apply.  The same thing that got people in the buildings to see Dusty got people in the arena to see Hogan and got people in the arena to see Austin and Rock.

Now, with all of that being said, on a smaller level there are people who draw with niche audiences.  The Young Bucks didn't make their names on the indies and sell out smaller venues cutting promos, and I'd argue the reason AEW is remotely successful is because of the built in cult following of the Elite.  They have an audience.  Orange Cassidy has an audience, however last year it was proven that based on neilson ratings and even youtube ratings that their biggest draw is Jon Moxley.  People tune in for Moxley because of global and mainstream wrestling recognition from being in the WWE. Why? It's not because he's the most technical wrestler, and it's not because he has a 'look'.  The man can talk people into watching a show though, and that's mostly what he did on youtube and AEW Dynamite: talk.  Is the company going to go under if Moxley leaves? No, nor will they lose a massive chunk of their viewing audience, which prevents me from saying he's a true draw like Hogan or Rock.  His move to AEW wasn't a massive paradigm shift.  No one stopped watching WWE main product specifically to watch Moxley, which is the difference between him and the men listed above.

The Criteria has been the same for more than 2 Centuries? Will People spend money to see you work? Whether we are talking Live Wrestling Shows, Wrestling Shows on The Radio, Television, The Internet, Social Media, Streaming Services, etc. Whether Fans will spend money on Merchandise, buy tickets to Live Shows, Television Shows you are on and Pay Per Views. Professional Wrestlers can also make a good living off Third Party Services these days outside of their Professional Wrestling Contracts. Pre-Covid-19 you might also be surprised at how many Professional Wrestlers are doing Autograph Signings at Wrestling Conventions, Sports Memorabilia Conventions, Independent Wrestling Shows, Comic Book Conventions, Science Fiction Conventions, Fantasy Conventions, Comic Cons, etc.

Professional Wrestling Promotions have more revenue streams now and you can express your support for a Professional Wrestler in so many more ways.
