Is a wireless mouse really necessary for a desktop computer?

I stopped using a wired mouse several years ago because people to me that a wired mouse is old school and stupid to use at this day and age. But I don't know.... ever since I was using a wireless mouse, it's a headache having to keep replacing the batteries, not to mention, an added expenses as well. And now that I've been working from home during this pandemic, I am flying through AA batteries soooo fast. It's crazy to deal with this because I'm using a desktop computer and the mouse is always on the desk and never gets moved far away from the computer. Maybe a laptop, I can understand since laptops get moved everywhere, but for a desktop, it just seems unnecessary and I don't understand why nobody uses a wired mouse anymore.

Does everyone here really think it's necessary to use a wireless mouse and waste batteries when using a desktop computer?

I use a Logitech track ball.  No cord.  The batteries

    away.

not necessary but some are really good, i have a wireless mouse i only bought because i can't hear the click when i click the mouse and the battery last a really long time, about a year for a single double A battery

i think my logitech wireless mouse cost me $30

you can get a plug in mouse for about $10

I personally don't like the slight pull you get from the wire on the wired mice when moving it, nor do I like looking at the wire on my desk.  As far as batteries go I just keep a set of rechargeable batteries for the mouse ready to switch out, so I'm never buying batteries.   Regardless if you really want to use a wired one, go ahead, I'm not sure why you care what anyone else thinks.

Stop believing others. A wired mouse avoids the battery problem and the wireless aspect.

I still use a wired mouse.

I actually got out an old wireless mouse several months ago to use while watching a TV show on the internet, but it's old enough that Windows doesn't automatically find the driver. I'm sure I have it on disc, but sometimes saving everything results in being unable to find anything.

A mouse is not necessary for a desktop computer. It depends on what you do with the computer. I have some computers that don't even have keyboards attached to them. They're servers.

If you want to use a mouse, you can go either way, wired or wireless. It depends on your budget and preference. Me, for my workstation, I have a wired trackball instead.

I'd say this is a preference thing. Use the controls that work for you. Personally I prefer a USB mouse as I am never far enough away from the PC for a wireless mouse to be beneficial to me.
