Nope, it's real. Mitsu made 2500 Lancers with 4G63 power plants in 1992. They sold out so fast that they made another 2500. The 4 cylinder are greatly modifies - along with the clutch & tranny.
You can get much the same effect with a large turbo on a small diesel.
