Of course there is positive criticism. Unfortunately, most people think the word “criticism” means the same thing as putting someone down. But it means to examine or to analyze, and give an opinion or judgment.
Because humans are so naturally mean, sharing their judgments usually does end up putting someone down. How rare is it to hear someone offer actually positive criticism?
“I spent a lot of time reading your report. You did a great job covering the topic; however, there are some spelling mistakes that you ought to correct before turning it in.”
Practice positive criticism. It usually works better than the negative kind.

YES!!! Particularly in Art.
The critic points out the faults, and then tells the author how to correct them .

Usually called constructive criticism, the idea is that small improvements can be suggested but recognising the positive value of what has already been done. For example:-
Your analysis of the calculus in this volume calculation is perfectly correct, but your teacher is more likely to praise your efforts if they are of a size that is easier to read and there are no spelling errors.

The issue here is question of equivocation: The word criticism has two meanings. They are closely related in meaning but they are very different in emotional intent. There is "the expression of **disapproval** of someone or something on the basis of perceived faults or mistakes" versus "the **analysis** and judgement of the merits and faults of a literary or artistic work" where the analysis itself is essentially emotionless and purely technical.

Positive (or constructive) criticism points out strengths that exist and can be improved. The best example I can think of is an athletic coach. Positive criticism is what they do.

No, all criticism is negative. Some criticism is still useful as one can improve oneself in response. Some criticism isn't.
