About prayer in school?
Several centuries ago our founding fathers who were escaping religious persecution from the old world and had a vision of creating a new community in this new land where people would have the freedom to practice religion as they see fit. They made great sacrifices to establish this new colony where they endeavored to put God first in all the aspects of their lives. That means for example prayer before eating or prayer before starting a new day.. So at school it was common practice years ago to start the day with prayer and as not every child was a christian it was decided to have a moment set aside in the beginning of the school day to allow whoever wanted to to start the school day with prayer. But apparently a minority were for some reason offended in some way and convinced the decision makers to abolish that tradition. Ever since the ethics and morals of the students have been going down hill. . More and more students are finding it difficult to find self worth in their lives and to relate in a wholesome way to others and their parents. When prayer was allowed in schools nobody forced the students who did not want to pray to do so and yet was beneficial in many way for the whole. Now that it is not allowed things seemed to be going from bad to worse in schools and society as a whole. So do you think prayer should be allowed once again in schools so that students who choose to practice their religion as they see fit can do so as it was guaranteed by the US constitution?

Those who searched for freedom did not offer such to their own now did they. Schools are for learning and not indoctrination. Your presentation that removing "compulsorily" prayer from schools has also removed your gods from your hearts is stupid. If you wish to pray you simply chose find your god in your heart and mind and no others are required to validate "your" choice in the gods. Going from bad to worse is because teachers no longer have any authority nor the respect of those who owe them so much because parent's fail to do "their" jobs and raise children to respect those who have far more knowledge and wisdom then the kids do. We never removed prayer from the schools, just the requirement for those who believe in other gods or no gods at all to validate "yours" for you! Get over it!

I grew up religious and I prayed in school according to Matthew 6:5. It did not need to be a public display or a performance. You obviously do not understand what our country was built upon. School is for educating the intellect.

Why do you think the Plymouth settlers were the only people who settled in what is now the US? They weren't. Most colonies were money-making ventures that had nothing to do with religion. The Separatists did not believe in freedom of religion for anyone other than themselves. They punished any straying from their dogma quite severely. By the time of the revolution, religion had faded into the background and the framers of the Constitution recognized that religion was a cause of strife and should not be part of any national foundation. You are perfectly free to practice your religion. What you can't do is force it on others. And that's the sticking point, isn't it? You don't think you're free to practice your religion unless you're forcing it on those who aren't part of your religion.

School is for education not indoctrination!
It was not too long back when schools taught comparative religions giving a fair appraisal of many religions and at that time prayer was also used. Then the Christians demanded that only Christianity be taught and as everyone knows that is against the constitution so religion and prayer were removed!
The government of the United States of America is, in no sense, founded on the Christian religion. Treaty of Tripoli, Article 11. Ratified unanimously by the senate and signed by founding father and second president, John Adams, in 1797.
“The purpose of separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe in blood for centuries. ― James Madison
The U.S. Constitution is a secular document. It begins, "We the people," and contains no mention of "God" or "Christianity." Its only references to religion are exclusionary, such as, "no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust" (Art. VI), and "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" (First Amendment). The presidential oath of office, the only oath detailed in the Constitution, does not contain the phrase "so help me God" or any requirement to swear on a bible (Art. II, Sec. 1, Clause 8).
Homeland Security is having to put more and more time and resources into tracking christians who seek to tear up the constitution, destroy democracy and foment a second civil war to install a Christian dictatorship!
A chilling warning was issued to US police forces about the threat of a rise in violent right and left wing Christian extremist groups!
Seems these people are not just a bigger threat to American freedoms than external terrorists but completely anti American!
If you are so UNCHRISTIAN and UNAMERICAN you cannot stand living in a democracy with all it’s hard won freedoms, Constitution and human rights why have you not emigrated to North Korea?!
Thankfully Federal Law bars people like yourself with extremist religious views from the military and several Federal jobs and any form of security clearance!
The NSA monitors all posts so should have identified you and passed your details to the relevant Federal Agencies!
Employers now check the social media of applicants so you could be making you unemployable!!!!!!

I have been hearing about praying having been stopped in schools but, when was it stopped? I must have been stopped many years ago. I also think that prayer in school was something done perhaps by individual schools. But to have a special time each morning for children to pray is not why they are attending school. I am against such being done in schools.

It is as Christ said, "Watch how you teach a child for in that teaching he will believe and live by."

No one has the right to keep any person from personally saying a prayer wherever they may be. If a child what's to say a prayer in school, no one can stop them, it's just wise to say it silently, God still hears the prayer. As Jesus made note of how the Pharisees prayed to be heard by men because they were hypocrites, Jesus said to pray in secret to the Father.
