Why are fans in the stands at Aussie Open not wearing masks? Why are some tennis players hugging each other after the match with no masks on?

I was at the Australian open and I thought the same thing..

But the laws at the time said that masks weren’t required outside so no masks were legally required when the roof was open as I guess that I technically considered to be outside.

I did see a match with the roof closed (Rafael Nadal ☺️❤️🇪🇸🏆) and as the roof was closed we had to wear masks.

As for the players hugging, high fiving, shaking hands.. I did see Novak play and he hugged his opponent Faitoe after a close battle.. I guess because they were wrapped up in emotions and their emotions, natural instincts and just human habit after years of hugging their opponent.

  • In Victoria, masks are (“were” when you asked the question) mandatory only in malls, big supermarkets, public transport... They had a four-month lockdown and almost zero cases in weeks. Players did the quarantine, so they are (again, “were”) subjected to the same rules as Victorians.

Australia is in a much better position than the USA when it comes to Covid because they did things right in 2020. Masks are optional. You've heard how well New Zealand did well with their lockdown to the point that NZ has never really needed to use masks in public at all.
