How to convince my dad?

I’m going to be turning 21 soon and want to get my first tattoo. At first it was going to be a small to medium tattoo on the back of my calf but I changed my mind to a smaller one on my wrist. I’ve asked and talked about it with my mom and she says that it’s fine since I’m an adult. However my dad disagrees and asks me if there is any meaning to the tattoo and  I might regret it in a couple of years. All I want to get is a small and barely noticeable heart on my wrist. Imo it’s cute and something I won’t regret within years. My dad thinks that it has to have a meaning. Is there a way I can convince him?

I think that would be nice

Why do you have to "convince" him? You're an adult. If you want a tattoo go and get one.

You think you won't regret it; he thinks you will. Only time will tell which of you was right.

PS I don't think it's "cute" but it's nothing to do with me.

While it is true that you are 21 and can make your own decisions, if you are still living at home you might consider the ankle tattoo again. It is probably the location that would be least noticeable. It is also a better location for a tattoo than the wrist simply because if you are looking for a job or you have to work in an industry where tattoos are looked down upon, it becomes difficult to wear long sleeve sweaters or shirts to cover a tattoo on the wrist all the time. Much more easy to cover a tattoo on the ankle.

You are 21!! Just do it. You don't need his permission. Just tell him what the tattoo means to you, and let it go at that.

    Ask until he agrees

You need to be 18 to get a tattoo, you dont need your dads approval. It would be nice to have him on the same page, but sometimes thats not possible. My parents never agreed with tattoos, and i have 10, i dont regret any of them, and theyre all in spots i can cover up. As long as it has meaning to you or its significant to you thats all that matters.

I don't know about convincing your Dad. However, may I suggest temporary tattoos. I thought they washed off right away, but was wrong because the one I slapped on at a bachelor's party stayed on for weeks.

I'm not anti-tattoo. To the contrary, I think it's great that so many talented artists can make a good living in the tattoo business. Some of the art work is simply breathtaking.

Nevertheless, perhaps something to consider is what you're passionate and care about now may not carry on to your future. If you have unlimited funds for laser removal, please ignore everything I wrote.
