You need to install it on an internal hard drive
****UPDATE**** - If you don't want the truth don't ask questions!

It does not work since the installed files will be shared between your external drive and internal drive. The registry files go to the windows registry which is internal disk and the folders go to the external drive that you end up getting errors.

First, there is no reason to not install a game to an external drive as long as you realize it has to be connected to play it. OK, that is a "DUH" comment, but some folks don't understand that part.
Now the next question is whether you can do a successful CHKDSK on the D: drive at this time. If not, your D drive is damaged.
The third question is whether you can do a non-repair version of CHKDSK on the installation medium to verify its readability. You would run this from the command prompt on your machine.
Here is some documentation on CHKDSK.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/ad...
If you cannot find an error on either D or the distribution medium, then I don't know what would be the problem. However, you SHOULD be able to take a screenshot of that error and PRINT it, then take that and the game installation kit to where you bought it to demand a refund.

It's reporting a CRC error on the D: drive, which means it's got a corrupt file. Based on the filename I'm guessing that you're installing from DVD and D: is your DVD drive. If I've guessed right, then your disc is unreadable. Try redeeming your CD Key through the Rockstar Launcher and downloading the game instead, or try different discs.
If D: is your external drive, then there's something either wrong with the drive or the connection that's corrupting data as it tries to write it.

run chkdsk.
you need to assign your removeable drive a perment drive letter.its common. just make sure your program is shut down before you turn off or otherwise remove your drive or you could corrupt it and always assign it the same drive lettrr when you turn it on.I dont know why you would want that garbage on your system they use that crap to spy on you.
are you a fed or plan on becoming one? if so you better watch out letting them spy. thats how they are managing to attack the local law now thru spy games and graft.
IMO.

You are trying to "install" to the root directory of a drive.
You should never, ever, do that!
Delete all the files - or just reformat the whole drive.
Then create folders for things you want to store on it and use them when copying, saving or installing anything to the drive.
eg. For this, create a folder "Games", then create one for GTA5 within that.
Select that folder as the install location when you try to install the game again.
There are still no guarantees that it will work.
As other answers say, many things can only be installed to internal drives. Programs that can work from removable media usually have a special "portable" version.
Another problem could be the disc format - if the game uses large files, if may only install to a drive formatted as NTFS.
External drives usually use a different format.

A cyclic redundancy check error is usually caused by a corrupt source medium (like a scratched DVD). It's also possible there's a bad sector on your external drive, causing the data to not be written correctly and then fail the check because it doesn't match what was written.
If this is a digital copy, redownload it. If it's a physical release, make sure the discs are clean. And run CHKDSK or a manufacturer's diagnostic tool to check the hard drive for problems.

You generally can't install games onto an external drive. When the game installs certain registry values and installed files depend on a fixed path to the drive. This can only be achieved by using an internal drive
