cutting hedge?

I have a squared oleander hedge that I want to lower 2 feet. Can I do that with a chainsaw.

    Cut your throat instead

Oleander grows quickly and fills in well.  Depending on how big the branches are in the area you want to trim, I'd use an electric hedge trimmer and cut the bigger pieces by hand.  A chain saw generally isn't best for cutting small branches like that.

No because all the small bits of branches get caught in the chain.
