About gas powered weed trimmers.?

I am thinking of getting a weed trimmer to cut really tough grass like sometimes up to 8 feet high and easily cut ground cover but not so much anything woody. I am hesitating between the stihl FS131r the Maruyama B 30 L turbo and the B30 L. I understand the B 30 l has a bit less torque but I guess on the other hand runs faster? The B30L is cheapest and a bit lighter the other one a bit heavier and costs a bit more. The stihl about the same weight but costs a bit more. In case the B30 l would bee quite strong enough to do the job I woulg get it other wise the other one as it is a bit cheaper than the stihl but in case they might not be quite strong enough I would buy the stihl. Do you have any opinion?

We have found that Stihl equipment has always been reliable. You mustn't look at the off-the-shelf cost, but instead consider the long-term usefulness of the machine. We still have and use our Stihl 024 chain saw from about 1985, and the local Stihl dealer said we should not retire it and get a new one, just keep the old one going.

The suggestion that your job is beyond the capability of a hand-held trimmer is probably correct. I would think that a sickle-bar mower on a tractor would work best, but that's looking at quite an investment, and might not be right if you only use it occasionally.

Otherwise, a steel blade or a chain-saw design blade on a strong string trimmer would be a good idea. Your area's Stihl dealer will have good Stihl advice.

You could also try asking on some of the "tractors," "outdoors" and "farming" forums that now seem to abound on the Internet.

I think I would go with a stihl brand model FS91 .it's got what's called bicycle type grab bars for both hands and it's very powerful Way more than that Kawasaki copy from Maruyama Not to mention IT'LL ALWAYS START A D PERFORM PERFECTLY any other brand besides echo The rest kind of suck to be blunt Get stihl if you want the very best However ECHO BRAND IS ALSO a well made brand and is also very reliable and it's cheaper than stihl but still way better than the brand your thinking about

Yes. Your requirements are more than what a string trimmer can do. You are actually in the brush cutter class. For the tall grass you would probably use a blade like is on a lawn mower. For the ground cover you would use a blade much like a circular saw blade. The circular saw blade will also cut brush up to about 1" in diameter and at ground level. You carry it with a safety harness. One problem you will have on your tall grass is that you will cut it and it will fall back and cover where you are cutting. So you will have remove it which is more work that cutting it. That is why you need a riding lawn mower that will cut it up and spit it some distance away. The bigger the mower the better. Husqvarna makes a good brush cutter.
