Short summary of the story “the swimmer” by john cheever?

Neddy, an ex-Olympic swimmer, decides one day to swim the entire length of America, from north to south. Unusually, his strategy is to "dry swim" the entire route; to keep out of the water and crawl along the ground using exaggerated "swimming" motions to make it all seem real. As you can imagine, he gets into all kinds of adventures until, unfortunately, while dry-swimming across the New Jersey Turnpike he gets flattened by the traffic. Yes, a tragic end to a great endeavour, but at least he tried.
