Why is Yahoo! Discontinuing the Groups Feature?

I belong to a group that has existed for more than 16 years, has over 4,000 members, and receives over 100 messages per month.  Yet, Yahoo! is going to blow it up, just like that.  Why?

    Because why not

  • I am (hopefully) transferring my group to groups.io which was founded by the guy who started egroups. You do have to pay him but can do one month for $20. I'm hoping the transfer will not take longer than that. Good luck, folks!

The other comments are correct.  There is no money in yahoo groups so they are abandoning the features and scaling it back to almost nothing.  Very few groups will be able to use yahoo groups as is, so they will find some other platform and leave, which is exactly what yahoo wants.

Yahoo is NOT terminating the neo Groups. It is limiting the functionality of the Groups. Thought ALL Yahoo Groups were terminated in December 2012. The neo Groups have existed only since 2013. Your facts are uncoordinated and you seem to have misinterpreted what was on the suggestion board, feedback forum or an email.

There have been major email problems with the neo Groups for over 2 years. Apparently Verizon/Yahoo has decided the technological problems are not worth the money and time it would take to fix or hire and train the employees it would take to fix the problems.

because Verizon is run by greedy idiots who don't care about us users and aren't willing to invest in making the features work. They now pretend that we don't want the "old" features, as if we like facebook and googlegroups better, when in reality we simply abandon things that don't work.
