i started figure skating at 16, do i have a chance of becoming professional?

it s my dream to one day do ice shows and compete seriously. but i m already 16, which is i know is WAY too old to begin training. but i ve progressed from skate uk level 1 to nisa level 0 in just 6 months of recreational skating. dropping out of school and with all my time and effort, do you think it s possible for me to become junior/senior level?

No. Omg, don't drop out of school. You need a back up career to support yourself. Skating in ice shows doesn't pay all that well and it's a tough life. You'd only be skating in the shows for a few years, traveling every few days from place to place, being away from home, family and friends. Is that the life you want? There's more to it than that spotlight shining on you.

Only the top, top Olympic caliber skaters and coaches will make enough from endorsements and other opportunities. But there comes a time you can't skate forever at that competitive or show level. So what will your plan be to support yourself when you are 35, 40, 50 years old? Stay in school.

Don’t drop out of school. I hate to break it to you, but your chances to go in the Olympics isn’t plausible. There’s kids you and my age- even younger, already at the Senior and Junior level and it took them YEARS to become that good.

But that doesn’t mean you should throw in the towel though. You can still compete in nonqualifying competitions (they’re really fun) and participate in your local rink’s shows whenever they have them available (mostly in winter and spring time).

Just because you won’t go to the Olympics doesn’t mean you can’t become good or have a lot of fun with it.

    Happy skating!

If you pose as a professional and a silver or gold medal

also wants the job the answer isn't rocket science.

Edit to add more of why you’re an idiot..... guess what? Not everyone runs the same skating program and not everyone knows the levels. Landing singles in 6 months means squat. The quality isn’t there, that takes more time and a hell of a lot more experience. In very rare instances does a skater of your age start skating and start landing doubles and triples. It happens but not very often. We had a skater who did that, passed his freestyle 9 test and tried out for shows. He didn’t have the stage presence needed and as they told him that takes years of dance, choreography and skating to master. So go ahead and quit school and go show off your fancy waltz jump. Hope you have a strong backbone as they laugh you out of the tryouts

Ask your teacher. Are you any good? Are you skating 10 hours a day, every day?

I think you have a pretty good shot. Keep trying!
