What do you think about James Tomkins as a footballer? Do you think he is just an ordinary footballer as defender?
James Tomkins does have a few England international caps at senior level in 2011 and that's about it. Tomkins played for West Ham United for a number of years and I have heard he was left out of the team several times for a few seasons. He now play for Crystal Palace which is just above the relegation zone. What do you think about him as he never played for England expect for one or two games/ Just typically average? Why did he move to Crystal Palace from West Ham United?

Yes he is a very decent acquisition for Palace and has played some outstanding games this season. Maybe not in consideration for international duty but still a good enough player. The only reason Palace are anywhere near the drop zone is because of the number of chances not converted. If Palace had somehow managed to get someone like say James Forrest or a clinical striker (a player who passes the ball into the corners like Jimmy Greaves lol) there then I think they would be mid table or better.

He's a solid defender but he's not quite international level. Contrary to what you said, Tomkins has never been capped for the England first team. He's been capped at youth levels but never for the full national team. I doubt he will ever get an England cap cos there are several English defenders who are more competent than him;
