Opening a bank account entails signing a "contract". And you can do that at age 18. And not before. Otherwise, and adult has to open it in your name.

When I was 12, I knew the best place to find that out was calling the Southside Bank in Kentucky. Why ask here?

They probably have a special account for a kid with the parent's oversight and approval. It's a way to teach a kid what a bank account is and how to handle money without all the fees, restrictions, etc. Sort of a gratuity. My husband had one as a kid and that is where he learned money is numbers.
