Bed bugs or fleas?

While visiting some family my boyfriend got several bites on his side, around the insides of his elbows, and the back of his knees. They look very much like bed bugs but we stripped the whole house and couldn t find anything and not one single person besides him was bit. I was thinking maybe it s fleas but I m not so sure... any thoughts?

Bed bugs... definitely! Fleas will always go for your lower legs unless you have your legs completely covered. If he got bit up that bad, you would see the fleas, trust me. I got random bites on my ankles before and thought it was bed bugs.. To my surprise, while I was examining a bite on my ankle, a flea randomly jumped on my foot. So you can throw on some white socks and try to spot fleas that way, but more than likely it's bed bugs/

I have been in bed next to my boyfriend and woke up covered with bed bug bites and he had none, zero, go figure. We were on vacation, this was not our own bedroom but I can tell you that you cannot find these bugs! They are paper thin and can hide behind light switches, in the seams of the mattress and the box springs and can lie dormant for months at a time. I would advise washing the clothes and shoes you wore immediately and keeping any luggage you took with you out of the house. good luck

Hmmm. Fleas don't typically go after people, definitely does sound like bed bugs, especially if they woke up with them. If it is, you'll have a hoot and a half finding them, let alone getting rid of them, might even be worth it to find a pest specialist. If still nothing, could be a rash? Maybe allergies even? There are a few possible causes.
