Why did this guy lie to me?
SO before I tell you what happened, don't judge my decisions, I needed to know so I could move on.
Naturally it starts with a girl liking a boy. The girl is fed up of dropping hints so she asks one of his close friends to ask him if he knows that she likes him. His friend comes back to her and says that the guy has a girlfriend and tells her the girls name. It cuts her but she stays strong. A few weeks later she finds said 'girlfriend' is actually dating another guy.
I want to know why this guy lied to me?
The guy who lied to me has a girlfriend and is happy so why would he need to lie to me?
What should I do about this?

There could be millions of reason.
The most likely reason though, is that his friend was told to tell you he has a girlfriend. Said friend probably gave a little more sustenance to the excuse by adding a name or something.
Said guy sounds like he isn't interested. There is a chance though his friend didn't actually talk to him, and that he made it up. Maybe his friend wouldn't like to see him date you. But that seems a little far fetched.
