Modem frequently disconnects. Give it more than 10 times per day.?

Modem frequently disconnects.

I've been having this issues for a few days now , I'm not sure anymore where the problem lies.

I've tried ipconfig renew refresh , rebooting modem , reinstalling settings via the modem router's cd. Yet , for example , I get on an online game, give it a 5-15 minutes , I'll get disconnected.

There will be a yellow icon at my wireless on the bottom right , and at the same time while I go check my modem , some lights were missing.

Giving it a 2-3 minutes it'll connect once again , only to disconnect again as I've mentioned above.

Only thing I'm concern is that recently the activity in wireless of the bytes sent and received has been different from what I've seen before. I've attached a picture below. Is this normal?

Have your really downloaded around 160 MB since you last booted your computer? If you have just been browsing, then it might seem a little high and might indicate some malware is running on the computer. If you have been streaming video, then it's probably OK. It will depend on how long the computer has been running since its last reboot and what you have been doing.

Is your router set to use 802.11b only, or is the wireless card in your computer only capable of 802.11b? 11 Mbps is the maximum speed for this wireless mode. From the strong signal, you are not too far from your router. If there is another active device on the wireless network that is only capable (or is configured) to use 802.11b, then that will drag the whole network down to 11 Mbps.

What is actually disconnecting? You say the modem is disconnecting, which suggests a problem between your home and your ISP. However, many people mistakenly confuse a WiFi disconnection with a modem disconnection. WiFi and Ethernet are both used for connections between your router and your computer equipment. If you have a separate router and modem, these two will normally be connected to each other by Ethernet, and the modem will connect to your ISP by cable, fibre optic or ADSL/DSL over your phone line. Some routers have an integrated modem and do not require a separate modem box. In this case, the router connects directly to the ISP line.

You need to establish just where the problem lies. If it is on your side of the modem, then unless the router was provided by your ISP then you are normally responsible for fixing the problem.

Have you established that an Ethernet connected computer loses Internet access at the same time as a WiFi connected device? If the Ethernet carries on working, then the problem could be interference on the WiFi connection. Try logging on to the router and changing the channel it is using. Somebody could have set up a wireless network on the same channel close to your home.

If it is a WiFi problem does it affect all devices? There is a problem with something like 5% of router/computer combinations where the WiFi network appears to be good, but the speed is slow, the connection drops or the computer simply will not connect to the network. The solution is to change the router, change the wireless adapter in the computer, change the adapter driver software or switch to an Ethernet connection.

If the modem is dropping the connection to your ISP, then there should be some indication on the lights on the modem that something is wrong. Time to call your ISP.

You may need to do some more experimenting to determine where the problem lies.

I hope you solve the problem.

    Is it your Modem?

    Or is it your Adapter?

Or is it your System? (Can you connect to another network say a Phone Hotspot?)

Are other devices having this Issue?

Call your internet provider and have then run a diagnostic. It looks like something on their side.
