Parents and children?

Why do parents sometimes refuse to accept that one of their children is bad , even when all the evidence shows them, he or she is.

Is it love? Misguided. Pride. In the fact it may reflect on them, as a bad parent?

Or they feel ashamed even though they them are good parents.

Maybe they are more concerned of what their neighbors think.

I have seen many a child standing next to their parents , with a smirk on their face, knowing their parents will stick up for them , even when you tell them their child has been caught not once but twice, steeling from jackets in the changing room .

I am not judging them or condemning them. Just curious of what you think.

its the "my child can do no wrong" attitude a lot of parents have started to adopt. they can't possibly fathom that THEIR child did ANYTHING wrong because "we don't raise them that way" when in reality, little jimmy is the biggest bully on the playground. you can't reason with these parents. even if they saw a video of their kid stealing, they still would have some excuse for the behavior. when I was working with kids, one mom constantly had an excuse as to why her son (4) would punch other kids in the nose. according to her "he must have been hungry, he gets cranky when he's hungry". when some other kid finally decked hers, she wanted the FBI on the case because her son was "assaulted violently" and would not hear that the other kid was defending himself from her little tyrant. bad parents wont see how bad their kids are even when one of them is in jail for murder.
