Pain where wisdom tooth should be.?

I got my wisdom teeth pretty early, all 4 were our by the time I was 18 and when they were coming through I had no pain at all. I had them taken out at 19 (I'm 23 now) and ever since then (around once or twice a year) on the bottom left side where the wisdom tooth use to be I get pain and gum around that area feels inflamed. After a 2-3 days it goes away. Why is this?

Hi, You should see a dentist, and have an xray performed to make sure that they are not affecting the rest of your teeth. Also, if you have a gum infection, ibuprofen or oral antibiotics may help deminish some of the pain. All of my wisdom teeth were impacted or deep within my jaw, and needed to be surgically removed. Good luck.

I think it is probably the trauma caused to the jaw bone that causes the pain. When a bone is broken it sometimes hurts even years after healing. I have the same with my collar bone, even tho it was broken 10 years ago, it still occasionally throbs. Usually when it the weather is cold actually.. But yes, pulling a tooth, especially the biggest teeth, can cause trauma to the jaw bone. It is nothing to worry about.
