For the most part, quite progressive for their time, but they've been mythologized into demigods.

Most of these were slave-owning landed aristocrats. What they were complaining about wasn't so much "freedom" as unfair competition from British Aristocrats.

The American revolution looks more like a corporate take-over than a true grassroots movement and for this reason, America has always been profoundly unequal. Sure, they outlawed titles of nobility but for all intents and purposes, the American revolutionaries meant to install a new aristocracy. A certain middle class did arise out of it, mostly out of necessity, since they needed troops to fight the British, but for the most part, keeping intact the privileges of the large land-owners was a major concern throughout.

Now, the French Revolution... that was something else. Granted, it wasn't perfect either, but at least for once in history... the "important" people did the dying.

Our Founding Fathers were the progressives of their day. Even though most of them were rich and owned slaves, most of them supported "the people" version of government and created our Constitution & Bill of Rights.

Conservative leaders from England disliked our Founding Fathers due to their views against conservatism elitist laws.

They were not born again Christians as you claim, they were mostly Episcopalians, Satan's spawn according to far right conservatives.

And Ben Franklin was an avowed atheist.

Well, the way the Farmers Almanac puts it our founding fathers wrote the constitution in a bar half drunk, and George Washington sold illegal whiskey for votes...so i hope one day the constitution is re written by a wiser president

humans just like us i hate when people pretend they were a bunch of old wise men who could do no wrong but they did smoke weed and create my country so im cool with them but then again im not what you would call "progressive" well at least not liberal however, im not conservative either

Seeing as how the founders had vastly different political and religious convictions amongst themselves, judging them as a collective group is nearly impossible.

The were liberals, intellectuals, traitors, a few of them former pirates, but most importantly, they were men; with all the flaws and baggage that implies.

They were liberal thinking. A few people in the south opposed the constitution...they may have been the republicans of the time.

Why call them "fathers" when they were genocidal, slave owning colonizers?
