How do I use my American Airlines credit/voucher?

So back in October I had a trip planned to Kansas by using American Airlines... I had to cancel the trip last minute and the airline issued me a $200 credit/voucher. They gave me the 13 digit number over the phone. I would like to use the $200 for a trip to Philadelphia in June but I'm just curious how I go about using that voucher. Do I have to call the airline and make my reservation over the phone? Also, if it's over the phone is there a fee to make a reservation on the phone?

It's easier to book the Philadelphia trip online. You go to AA's website to pick out the days and times you want to travel and then then when you get ready to pay, there should be an option to pay with the airline credit. If the cost of the trip is more than the $200 credit value, you would have to pay the difference.

The voucher states that you have to use the phone to use the voucher, and it needs to be 21 days or more in advance, as after 1/2 hr on the phone getting directions of how to address the envelope, and xeroxing it as proof, you send it in to the specific address, and call a wk or so before the flight to see if they applied the voucher. It is very non digital, and uses an american clerk for 2 telephone calls. It is almost as if you are not supposed to use it, but when you buy the upgrade, you have the option to get a voucher, and not a refund if you have to cancel.
