I have used the title Ms. ever since the term was introduced. I prefer that because it's the female equivalent of Mr. I don't think my marital status -- or lack thereof -- should be everybody's "business" or should make a difference in how I'm perceived.

Source(s): In fact, I have been married for decades & continue to use my so-called "maiden" (family) name. Absolutely no biggie!

Why not go for the nondescript Ms. which covers all bases ? From a legal standpoint, you are still married so your given name is your husband's surname and your title can be either Mrs or Ms. Once you are divorced, you have the option of reverting back to your maiden name, retaining your ex partner's surname or changing your name by deed poll to whatever you choose.

You can use whatever title you want. Plenty of married women refer to themselves as Miss.

Do it at the time of divorce. I suggest Ms.
