How can you recognize if someone is one of God's important teachers or maybe even a prophet?

God is love, so the amount of love in a person's teaching or message can be a very good indicator as to how much of it's from God. Whenever you're uncertain of something, or confused about it, you can examine the conflicting ideas in relation to the truths that you know absolutely for certain: God is love, God is good, God is in control. If you remember these basic truths, the more complex truths will fall properly into line with them. If you forget those basic truths, you can sometimes be distracted from the voice of the Holy Spirit by all the other voices that are competing for your attention. Remember that the gospel is good news and that whichever voice has the most beautiful and most loving message for you is God's voice (it's often the most challenging too, but it's only telling you to let go of the sin that's so precious to you because it's offering you something much, much better in its place). Eventually you'll notice the different feeling in yourself when you listen to God or to a teaching that comes from God. It's a mixture of peace and excitement that always makes it easier to love: it's really wonderful, and quite different from the selfish "I'm better than someone else" ("sinners" or whatever) feelings that you get from listening to false prophets.

That is one of the most important questions you can ask and is of great benefit to mankind, so to not be led astray. Dr. David R. Hawkins, who I recommend to you as a genuine spiritual teacher, teaches how to recognize fully Enlightened God/Self-Realized being from impostors. The prophet or mystic promotes God and or the uplifting of the spiritual awareness of all of mankind, and is without ego. Self-promotion and personal gain for a profit are signs of those who seek to deceive the spiritually naive, and often offer mystical "secrets" and ancient knowledge at a price. Many times there is some bizarre ritual or initiation for the seeker including a pledge or oath. The is there are no secrets. Everything that is needed to be known has already been said for many thousands of years. There is no new advance spiritual knowledge that anyone has exclusivity to.

If you want to know whether you are not deceiving yourself about what God is telling you, ask God to show you in a way that cannot be mistaken so that you know that is True when you pray and meditate. As a spiritual novice, it is natural to be unsure and even apprehensive of what you experience. But with devotion and deep faith your uncertainty will dissipate and the confirmations you receive become more and more unmistakable. Just trust in yourself and in God.

Also, Dr. David R. Hawkins has discovered an interesting method that is of great benefit to mankind in discerning truth from falsehood, which is explained in his many books lectures and interviews which you find on youtube. The technique is used by millions all over the world and even by governments and institutions worldwide.

The Holy spirit will bear witness to what is nonsense. The trick is to remain in neutral about guidance.

Once you have a better or more attractive plan, you will naturally gravitate toward it. My husband regularly prays to find out where I have hidden his stash and sometimes he is led to find where it is hidden. I don't think God wants him high all the time. I suspect he is contacting elementals ,angels or even fairies I may just be running out of places to hide drugs

. I would never consider anyone is a prophet unless they told me they dreamed I died on a certain air flight .God can talk to you and will. If someone says I need to get a health problem checked on, I would do that kind of thing. It doesn't hurt and may be helpful.

Most of the foretelling things are going to happen anyway. That is the bad news. Everybody says you can pray and change them but it doesn't seem to work.

The Bible is big on the word of God being established in the mouth of two to three witnesses.

I would expect someone else would confirm a word , or I would before I would consider it.

Huge things like who you should marry or where to move, should be determined by the leading of the Holy spirit in your life. It is just gravy if you get someone else to confirm what you are already planning on doing.

Assume no one is a prophet, unless God already told you about it.

Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Read the teaching of Jesus from the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and understand the mind of Jesus. The mind of Jesus reflects the mind of God. Now you are an expert and you will not ask this question again.

The good stuff is from Him.

The bad stuff is from you and The Devil.

Just go with the good stuff.

(The best assumption would be to believe it's all from just you, however, I'm buying into the premise for the sake of this question, Amen.)
