Anything that has happened in your life or happening now or something they saw that really caught their eye. Inspiration can come from anywhere. If you look at poets and read their material they right about all sorts of things, nature, people, life events, something that changed their life the possibilities are endless. Song writing can be quite similar to poetry the only difference really is music goes with the words.
