Naturally yes the 5 is more powerful than the 4S, and performance won't be much different, the only noticable ones would be the larger and sharper screen and the better camera. However the specs for performance of the 5 would be better than the 4S, even top apps aren't hungry enough to warrant the extra cpu power and RAM. The 4S would be fast enough to cope just as well as the 5.

5 = 1.2GHZ A6 chip and 1GB RAM

4 = 1GHZ A5 chip and 512MB RAM

bigger screen. lighter. thinner. faster processor. more RAM. much better camera lenses front and back. louder speaker. 4G LTE (better/faster reception). app developers are now optimizing applications for the iphone 5 and are leaving behind older models. and with the new iOS 7 that is being released soon, youll need the extra speed to run all of its new features smoothly.

LTE capable, larger screen, slightly faster, but still slow, lighter, thinner. I would suggest getting a Samsung Galaxy s4 instead. It kicks the iPhone 5's a$$.
