United Martial Artists for Christ?

Have you ever seen these guys perform one of their shows, are there many of this type of group in the United States? I think its interesting considering that several Christian groups like to speak in the negative about Marital Arts, yet many Christians are also some of the most keen practicers of marital arts! https://www.facebook.com/pages/United-Martial-Arti...

I don't know anything about that group, but there is nothing strange about martial artist being Christian.

Sure there are some that don't believe you can be both a martial artist and a Christian. That is their issue. There is nothing in learning martial arts that contradict being a Christian.

Being a Christian is about Loving God and Loving your neighbor. Martial arts is about preserving your life or the life of other in self defense. Many of the great men in the bible were men of valor. They fought to protect their families. The bible places a big emphasis on the family. As a husband the bible says I'm supposed to love my wife lie Christ loves the church. Meaning I must be willing to sacrifice my life for my wife like Christ sacrificed his life for the church.

God is concerned with sin. That is missing the mark by going against what God says. There is nothing in training that is a sin. There is no worshiping of other Gods. There is no breaking of the 10 commandments, etc.

I have seen several offbeat names used by churches that have martial arts classes (such as "Judo for Jesus.")

Since this group appears to be run by fundamentalists of one sort or another, I would think that just about all of the philosophy would be left by the wayside and that they would only be left with the body mechanics and applied physics.

I would guess that they keep their distance from the Internal Martial Arts since so much of the Taoist philosophy is incorporated into them. If this is the case, then they are depriving their followers of a glimpse of perception of the human experience outside of the fundamentalist box.

I asked about this on their Facebook page and am waiting for a response.
