2nd bachelor's degree, which GPA counts for graduate admissions?

I've been debating going back to school to get a second bachelor's degree in dietetics. While I would be okay with just being an RD, I was hoping to pursue a PhD in order to teach.

The problem: My first BA degree is in sociology and my GPA is horrifying (2.6) due to lots of personal problems and immaturity throughout my degree.

I have to have a 3.0 GPA in order to be eligible for admissions so my question is: which GPA do graduate programs look at? Or do they combine those degrees? If I use some of the general education classes from my first degree, do those grades factor into my GPA on the second degree?

I can't be for sure so I suggest you talk to someone at your current school and prospective graduate programs, but my guess would be that grad schools will likely look at everything, but rely more heavily on the most related undergraduate degree. An improvement for your second degree will look good probably. I would guess that your general classes will count toward your second degree, but ask an advisor. Maybe you can retake some of your classes that you made the worse grades in? At any rate, don't give up on grad school. Usually you will have the opportunity to explain any bad grades in personal essays, such as your personal struggles. You can also show that you have improved and believe that now you are ready for grad school. Also they will often ask about your entire gpa and your gpa from junior and senior years. That also is in your favor if there is a tremendous improvement I would think.
