I thought that Barcelona was overrated. Yes, La Sagrada Familia is cool, and I liked the main pedestrian plaza (starts with an "R"), but I didn't think there was much that I couldn't find in other cities like Leon or Sevilla. So, I would go for Granada of the two, but Sevilla is the best city in Spain I've seen.

However, I do agree with Steven that if you're going by train (or bus) from Lisbon to Madrid, you really should stop and see Salamanca. It has loads of old architecture, so you'll like the photos you can get there. I'd also recommend Ciudad Rodrigo (west of Salamanca) to a lesser extent.

If you do visit Barcelona, note that there's a great Roman city (Tarragona) along the coast to the south, and a monestary (starts with an "M") in the mountains to the west.

Granada is famous of its Alhambra, worth a visit but nothing much to see in Granada to be compared with Barcelona. You will absolutely enjoy the Gaudi Gothic design, Sagrada El Familia, Parc Guell, Casa Milla, Las Ramblas etc.

If you are going by bus, try to stop by Salamanca on your way from Lisbon to Madrid. You could see a beautiful Plaza Mayor, and on your way from Madrid to Barcelona why not to stop by Zaragoza to see Basilica Del Pilar.

    Granada. Not to be missed.

If you had the time, you could do both.

You probably want at least a week to do Barcelona...make it its own trip.

Back in the day of film, I'd say, you wanted about ten rolls, just for Granada...especially if you like taking little bits of the architecture...SOOOOOOOO many little corners, there! Now, just make sure you have an extra card, in case, and charge your batteries!!!! (BTW, that goes for Barcelona, as well).

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Maybe try using a lonely planet guide book? Those are pretty great for getting ideas of what you can do in each place.
