How long can you freeze a turkey?

We still have one left over from last year. It has never been out of the freezer since then. would it be safe to eat?

It will still be great to cook and eat.

They recommend 12 months, but they should last for years.

Turkey will last a long time in the freezer if properly wrapped, but not indefinitely. I wouldn't let it stay for more than 8-10 months, ground beef =1 year. There is a chart you can find online that shows how long food can be frozen. After a while it gets freezer burn no matter how well it is wrapped.

Once you taste a fresh turkey you will never buy or eat frozen, the difference is astounding, much juicier..

as long as it is sealed tight it can stay frozen along time, wouldnt keep it over a couple years.

Yes. Food if frozen properly and kept frozen can be stored indefinitely.

However not to say it won't have any issues with freezer burn. This doesn't make the meat unsafe. Just effects the taste and texture of the meat itself.

Whole cuts of meat, usually 12 months is the longest 'recommended' amount of time to keep something like that frozen. Since after that time the quality of the product starts to diminish.

*Be sure to give this turkey plenty of time to thaw safely before Thanksgiving. A 14-19 pound turkey will need anywhere from 3-5 days to thaw out. When you get to doing that, also make sure to place the turkey inside a dish so any water/juice from it will not leak out onto anything else.
