How often should I, personally, wash my hair?

I have at least one sport activity everyday. (Volleyball, Softball, Speed and Agility Training)

I am only 14 years old.

My hair is very curly, and if I don't brush it right away after a shower it is somewhat frizzy. But other than that it is frizz free. i don't have thin or think hair, i would call it on the thinner side. My hair is about two-three inches past my shoulders when straight.

My hair is always in a ponytail for sports.

I normally take a shower and always shampoo about every other day. However, if I get really sweaty, then I'll break the every other day pattern. Also, sometimes I wash my body with out getting my hair wet. Is that bad?

I am a girl, btw.

Based on what I have told you, am I don't the right thing when washing my hair?

Any way to tell if my hair is healthy?

Thanks so much!

As a fellow curly girly, I know it can be tricky to deal with. I struggled a long time with how often I should shampoo, and finally I struck a balance washing it twice a week. I choose not to shampoo terribly often because harsh shampoos with sulfates can loosen the natural curl of your hair, and definitely promotes frizz.

I use organic, sulfate free shampoos, which can get expensive unfortunately, but if you're not shampooing daily, it would probably be worth it.

On days my hair feels dingy but I don't want to shampoo, I'll shower and rinse it luke-warm water.

Dry shampoo works wonders too if you can't get to the shower or you're out there doing your sporty thing.

The better the shampoo, the healthier your hair will be. Just avoid sulfates and you'll probably notice a difference.

Your routine seems pretty good, and as long as you never notice your hair looking greasy on the days you don't shampoo, you're not doing anything wrong for your hair.

Your routine sounds great actually. Washing your hair everyday isn't good for it as it makes it dry and strips it, so every other day should be okay. Like you have said though, on occassion you might get dirty/sweaty, so its recommended you wash your hair.

As for the washing without wetting your hair, you should be doing that on the days that you aren't washing your hair, especially if you do sports.

As for the healthy hair bit, its up too you what you think really. As long as it isn't too greasy, dry and you don't have dandruff, you should be fine!

You're fine. You shouldn't wash it every day. It's recommended every other day because if you wash it every day it can weaken your hair.
