What is the best way to see the London Sights ?

The hop on hop off buses appear to be quite expensive !

Is there a cheaper way to get to the major sights for photo taking ?

The underground ? A river ferry perhaps ?

All suggestions will be gratefully appreciated.

I plan to be in London at the end of Aug. 2013 ( to dodge the Olympic games)

Of course you see little from the Underground, but it is useful for medium and long distance journeys within london. Buses and walking are your best methods. Free bus maps are available from Transport for London enquiry offices and you can buy an A to Z street atlas of London almost anywhere. River boats are great too. Don't pay cash fares on the buses and Underground. Buy a Visitor Oyster Card in advance of your visit

It takes years to see London properly. A superb way to spend a day in London is to take the London riverbus service (or a tourist ferry) from Westminster Pier to Greenwich. The Riverbus really moves alternatively the tourist ferry will tell you all about what you're passing.

Greenwiich rocks. Check out this web page:

When I travelled to London I used the Hop on, Hop off buses and trust me, they are worth every cent. It's just so convenient and there are many stops, but you don't even have to get off.
