Why don't you go to classes over there in Rome, that teach english a couple of nights a week. That would be your best option. Good Luck

MPG, I have worked in Rome, and a couple of us had an apartimento, in the old section of Anzio, I know very well that English classes are offered in Rome, Reggio Calabria, Florence, and a few other of the major areas.
A good number of Italians specially from Campo Basso, that came in for an interview, had a good grip of conversational English also, as they were going to immigrate here to Canada, I started to learn conversational Italian while I was over there.
