I'm looking for recommendations for movies on global culture?

Something that I can show to students that will make history come alive, from all over the world. Something like "Lawrence of Arabia" or "Gandhi" or "Doctor Zhivago" or "Cry the Beloved Country",

good stories with historical settings and general accuracy. Target audience: 20-year-old female college students from around the world, English as a second language.

So what would you recommend? Maybe a top-5 or top-10 list.

    Hi :)

    I have a few suggestions :

Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan (2007) - The story recounts the early life of Genghis Khan who was a slave before going on to conquer half the world including Russia in 1206.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0416044/

The Song of Sparrows (2008) - This movie gives quite an insight into the Iranian culture.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0997246/

Bend It Like Beckham (2002) - Depicts traditional Indian culture aspects in a family settled in the UK. It should be quite appealing to 20-year-old female audience.

If you mean time periods then maybe things like Gladiator, or Jane Eyre, there are plenty of biopics of historical figures, but i can only really think of films such as Ed Wood, A Beautiful Mind and The Assassination of Jesse James. JFK? The Aviator? Chaplin. Theres probably more that i can't think of....
