How to alleviate knee pain (from Cipro)?

Long story short, I was prescribed Cipro, had a rare reaction that caused the ligaments in my knee to become horribly inflamed to the point where I can barely walk without pain, my knee won't straighten, and if I try to walk longer than a few feet my knee swells up, even with a knee brace. (I have seen a doctor and they switched my antibiotics and told me to wait a week.) I've been doing the bed rest thing for the past 2 days and taking ibuprofen to help ease the swelling but it is still really painful. I was wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and what they did to recover. Normally I'd just tough it out, but I have finals this week and I am finding it hard to concentrate due to the pain.

Advil should help some. Some people prefer hot pads and others like ice packs. Logically, heat should work better, but if cold seems to help more with the pain, go for it. Just don't let the ice touch your skin directly.

If you go back to the doctor, ask for a cortisone shot. Those are a bit painful for a couple hours, but they make joints heal much faster than normal. It's amazing what it can do. Just be careful to watch what you eat for the first day or two. You'll feel like you're starving no matter how much you eat, and you may get a bit sick if you overeat.
