Niagara Falls in winter?

I am planning on going to Niagara Falls this New Years Eve. Are all the attractions still running in the winter, such as the Ferris Wheel, the midway, the 'Journey behind the falls', those kind of things. Are there any attractions that are only open in winter?

If your going for New Years Eve, I'm pretty sure there is much more to see and do then Journey behind the Falls etc.

From mid-December to mid-April, the lower observation deck for journey behind the falls is closed do to icy conditions. (see link below).

You can still go up to the top of the Skylon Tower, which I believe has cheaper winter rates (at least the last time I went up it did).

A couple of nice things to see in Niagara Falls that time of year are (which are free) the Winter Festival of Lights. Not far from the Horseshoe falls there are always nice Christmas light displays.

A little further away (perhaps a 20 minute walk) I'd head on over to Dufferin Islands. They tend to have a lot of nice Christmas-like displays as well. One thing to watch out for though is it's usually packed with cars circling around, which is actually why I suggest walking there and around. You'd miss too much driving around it.

If you want to head in the other direction, you may want to check out Clifton Hill, which has a lot of stores and museums.

Either-way, I'd make sure I have a good pair of shoes, as it will be much easier to walk around then drive anywhere.

You know, when I visited Niagara Falls in the winter, the falls where so spectacular that I didn't really think to see if anything else was open, but I would certainly think many would be as there where lots of people around. To see some of video and photos I took of the falls see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTGHEA9-B3g&feature...

I was there one year for New Years Eve, and as I recall everything was open. They usually have a pretty good outdoor concert on NYE. Dress warm and pack some hot chocolate. There are lots of crowds, but it's a family friendly event and a pretty good time.

they should be, i think i went around Feb. one year and they were working, but i know for sure that the falls view indoor waterpark is all year round.
