Why don't people understand PTSD?

Nobody seems to understand it. They keep telling me to get over it, like it's just that simple. They keep equating it with being nervous.

Why doesn't anyone understand?

i believe ptsd is one of the most toughest mental disorders out there , i was attacked in the street in 1997 after i went on a violent rampage in the street due to being drunk and having a rage outburst...i can tell you it has taken a long time to get to grips with it...i have the flashbacks still...the hyper vigillance...the panic attacks, the inappropriate anger...its only through my own mental strength that it has gotten better and better understanding by the mental health services...i manage better now...but it has proven a long difficult battle.

Maybe because its not as common and known as OCD or bipolar disorder. Some people don't take the time to search it, cause they assume that your just making a joke, or its a big lie. Its nothing like being nervous, of course you and I know that but they don't. Don't let it get to you, alright.
