A philanthropist is a person who donates considerable sums of money to causes they believe in.
Motive: Tax Write-off, self-gratification, fulfilling one's dreams, supporting a friend's cause, any number of reasons.

Literally a "Lover of men (people)", one who does works for the greater public good
