Do athiests ever get upset when some Christians say that athiests can't love or help other out of love?

Cause SOME(definately not all) Christians think that atheists cant-for example-give to the poor out of love, because they dont have this love/this character.

Do you think these kind of comments could contribute to a greater divide between athiests and Christians instead of greater harmony and understanding?

No, because usually within 5 minutes they move on to say women can't do a man's job or that minorities can't make it on their own.

It's a pretty condescending and annoying belief. Atheists don't believe in God. That's all. If anything, they're MORE capable of helping other people selflessly or of loving another person. A theist is doing kindnesses for the hope/promise of divine favour. An atheist is doing it for his fellow man, or because it's the right thing to do.

Is it slightly insulting? Yes. Does it matter? No. Do you know how many insulting comments are made from Atheists towards Christians on here? Many of them insulting intelligence..

I am Atheist and I know personally that I am a wonderful, caring, considerate person. It does not matter what other people think of me and if they are going to judge me merely on my religious beliefs without having ever met me, well, go for it. However, I thought religion as a whole taught not to judge others..

No, but it makes me wonder about the morality of Christians that they need the threat of Hell fire to be good people, when Atheists just are because it's the right thing to do

    "Upset" isn't the right word...

✝ I get SAD when Theists say things like "Atheists Can't Love" or "Why do Atheists get married?".

✡ I feel pity when Theists say things like "Atheists are Selfish and Have No Morals".

☪ I get angry when theists try to say that without their silly little "God", society would crumble and humans would just be out killing and raping one another when their own holy texts are chalk full of *GASP* Killing, Raping, Abortion, War, Coprophagia, etc. etc. etc.

These types of statements reenforce the evidence showing that Theism is nothing more than a form of mental illness inherited from your parents (Just like addiction or bipolar disorder) molded by family/cultural indoctrination.

I find it to be truly, truly pathetic that the only reason someone isn't out raping, murdering, pillaging, etc. is because they are afraid of being spanked by their magic sky daddy.

I find it to be truly, truly pathetic that the only reason someone goes out and does good deeds, like donating their time, money, etc. to those in need is because they think it will win them a "Reward" in the afterlife and make their magic sky daddy happy rather than just doing good things because it is the right thing to do...

"What makes it the right thing to do if "God" isn't telling you to do it?"

BECAUSE IT IS JUST PART OF BEING A SOCIAL ANIMAL. We evolved to where we are in the world because we cooperate with one another to get things done... If that isn't a good enough reason, please do the world a service and put a shotgun in your mouth because we don't NEED you and we sure as hell don't WANT you.

Scientists have identified areas of the brain that, when damaged, lead to greater spirituality. The findings hint at the roots of spiritual and religious attitudes, the researchers say.

► Predisposition for Religion Can Spread Quickly.

Religiously observant people have more children than other people do, according to demographic studies. Assuming there's a genetic predisposition for religion, this means the religion gene could spread relatively quickly throughout a population. Research using new mathematical models demonstrates just how quickly this could happen.

Brain scans showed that participants fell back on higher thought patterns when reacting to religious statements, whether trying to figure out God's thoughts and emotions or thinking about metaphorical meaning behind religious teachings. "That suggests that religion is not a special case of a belief system, but evolved along with other belief and social cognitive abilities," said Jordan Grafman, a cognitive neuroscientist at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke in Bethesda, Maryland.

Of course it's ignorant, but no more so than assuming Christians are uneducated or brainwashed into it from children. We should all keep some civil boundaries, but should and do are not the same.
