Is it wise to trade 99 van for 98 saturn?
I have the opportuntity to trade my 99 dodge grand caravan with 140k miles for a 98 saturn sl2 with 110k miles. Its going to be traded as an even trade with a friend of a friend. Both of us have kids so Im not concerned that the car is unsafe. Im just wondering if its the right risk to take. I drive a lot for work so I definatley need to make sure the car is dependable. both are in great condition. whats your thoughts and why?

you mean aside from I see many questions here asking about why does my saturn transmission no longer have a first gear? or Reverse, or first and reverse. No thanks, not to mention they no longer make a saturn car, that program went bankrupt. So what ever saturn parts are out there now is it , unless some after market group started to make good saturn parts. . Personally I do not know who had the idea first but I would keep what you have, or do the smart thing since yours has 140 k and is more likely than not going to need some work sometime in the future. Look into buying a new car, the price of gas is a powerful influence on that coming up good luck
additinal details oops just learned that 95 to 99 sohc saturns have a well documented factory defect for a cracked cylinder had which starts letting oil in the coolant, so this is not a good car, and a little further research showe that like any used car it has potential problems, but thats not surprising considering all high milage cars can probably use a little help.interesting enough the grand caravan had 11 repoted transmission clomplaints, and the saturn had 11 reported engine problems which really is not bad for older high mileage cars all things considering

Stay w/ what you know.
& why does your friend want to get rid of the Saturn?
Does it have all service records, most, any? Any @ GM?
Just for curiosity, you could get its VIN, Vehicle ID Number, and search it very well online [it'l cost you], w/ maybe 3 services like Carfax which is ok for a 4th opinion.
And take it to GM and ask them to run its VIN on their GM-only database of Advisories, Alerts, Memos, Recalls, Tech Service Bulletins [tsb's.]
That could have info that wouldnt show on the other VIN searches.
