Whats the purpose of "purity rings"?

A vain attempt to get kids to reign in their raging hormones that cry for a connection with the opposite gender.

I know that I am very, very late on answering this question, but, nevertheless, I feel like people could benefit from my answer. As a Christian, the purpose of a purity ring is simple: it's something we can look at when times are getting hard on our faith. In the bible, sex was made for marriage between two partners for life. You know how when people have many partners, they come into contact with and STD? Well, that's the way God designed it. Because of the exchange of fluids, etc. When you have sex, it creates a "soul tie," sort of psychologically 'tying' you to that person. If you don't believe in Christianity, just look at science- there are all kinds of 'side effects' of sex. (Ever seen a girl lose her virginity to a guy? Yeah, the girl falls head over heels in love, etc., etc.) So, basically, purity rings are a way for women and men to have something to look at. They're purely symbolic, I believe. It's like, "I made this promise, now I can look at it everyday to remind me of this promise." I hope this helped you!

I don't like the idea of purity rings.

Why? Well, here's my reasoning.

"purity" is insuating that if you have sex, it makes you dirty.

Which it doesn't, lust is a human desire. Everyone should be able to have sex, without feeling guilty and dirty.

PS: I' haven't had sex and I'm not a Christian nor have i ever worn a promise ring.

They serve no real purpose other than people who wear them thinking they are better then all us sinners who phornocate. Studies have shown that people who take purity pledges only refrain from having sex an average of 18 months after the pledge is made. Also teens who take virginity pledges are more likely to have anal and oral sex because technically they are still virgins.

Apparently some kids aren't capable of keeping their underwear on unless they buy an overpriced piece of tat. Whoever came up with the concept is laughing all the way to the bank.

Purity just comes from the idea that sex makes you dirty and impure.

The Benefit of waiting for marriage, is that if you dont, it would damage your moral values and, make you more likely to get pregnant (or get someone pregnant).

Purity means to keep your heart pure from lust and sexual desire .

Its an Important thing to keep yourself a virgin until marriage, because it’s a big part of your relationship to God.

It can be called anything like potato ring or screw driver ring and the purpose is obviously to sell it to superstitious people and make good money...

Even medical science proves that sleeping with multiple partners isn't the smartest thing to do.

That's where the purity comes from.

Anything that helps at all to keep kids from having kids is a good idea to me.
