What are some health risks of having braces on for an extended period?

I may have to put up with them for an extra 12 months to afford jaw surgery. I'm worried if I get them taken off for a while my teeth will go crooked again and the time and costs of the last 12 months orthodontics and health insurance will be all for nothing.

The health risks are minimal providing you brush well and don't drink anything that may stain the teeth avoid sugars when possible etc. If you do wish to have them taken off, you should be given an essix retainer which will hold the teeth in place in the meantime.

I don't know that there would be any health risks at all. I had to wear my braces for 3 years and didn't have any health problems related to it.
