What is the best way to travel around at Yosemite NP?

If you're staying in Mammoth you will enter the park from what we call the "back" side. Most of the park facilities are located on the western entrance. There you can find numerous shuttle buses that will take you to various parts of the park. By May most of the snow should be gone and all parts of the park will be open.

From the Mammoth entrance you will probably find renting/hiring a car to your advantage. Enjoy your visit to Yosemite Park.

You will probably land at LAX. You can hire a car there (it's about 250 miles to Mammoth), or you may be able to fly to Mammoth, and hire the car there. Alaska Airlines offers the ONLY service to Mammoth, but it is only during the ski season.

By Car, Stay in a Motel outside of the Park as it is cheaper, I think the name of the town was Oaks. wear good Hiking boots (buy them in a LA outlet shop they are heaps cheaper there). DO NOT book into the on-site tents within the park as those Bears are not that friendly! and you may be that "pick-nick basket", the park is fantastic you will see something great on every turn you make. When you go thru the long tunnel remember that Sharyn and I walked it, just so we could sneak thru the two tunnels on the side that lead to the cliff face.
