poo-dogs and mutti-doodles?

http://home.comcast.net/~NoPuppyMillsVA/Poo-dogs__...

Why do people keep insisting that these mongrel dogs are a 'real' breed?

And why are they paying thousands of dollars for them??

Why???

Update:

And the 'fact' that they are waiting for registration approval from (insert canine council in your country) is just laughable.

"cross breed" and "mutt" are the same thing

AKC has already made it quite clear that they will NEVER be accepting cross breed dogs into their registry.. they will NEVER be real breeds, because the steps are not being made to establish them as breeds. Majority of them are F1 and F2 mixes. Some of these crosses have been around long enough that if someone had seriously been making an attempt to develop a new breed, they'd have several generations into it by now.

I don't recall seeing any designer breeds that are being sold for thousands of dollars. What is the definition of a real breed? Where did the purebreds of today come from? There is no "purebred" dog that can trace a pure lineage back to the beginning ... they have come from a variety of different dogs.

I believe that there should be advantages to crossing the two breeds, not just "doing it for fun". For instance, a Beaglier is a a cross between a Beagle and a Cavalier. In mixing the two breeds, you're reduce the hunting instinct of the Beagle, and the health issues of the Cavalier. I'm not calling it a purebred, but it is a special dog that is healthier than some purebreds.

I understand that some people have gone way out with the designer breeds, for instance - why would you breed a Bichon and poodle? What's the advantage there? I don't know, but if people want to breed them, and people want to buy them, I'm not going to slam them.

Yes, there are a lot of unwanted dogs in shelters, and "unwanted" is the key word there. Frankly, if I'm going to get a dog, it is either going to be for breeding, or a personal pet. I certainly wouldn't want to get a pet from a shelter, when you don't know where it's been or how it's been treated. Apparently, a lot of others feel the same way. Many people prefer to start from the beginning with a puppy, as opposed to getting a half-grown or adult dog that may have been abused, and you don't know anything about its background and ancestry.

Lots of people like to have something 'different' and are prepared to pay lots of money to get that - a bit like the old saying 'A fool and his money are easily parted'.

Greedy unscrupulous people have discovered by breeding what are really mongrels silly people will pay lots of money to have one.

Here in the UK these type of dogs can not be registered with the Kennel Club as they are not classed as pedigree dogs.

Another thing that the people buying them don't realise is most dog breeds have some kind of health problems and if you have 2 different breeds there is the possibility of double trouble. I would advise anyone considering buying one of thes crossbreeds to look into the history of both breeds involved in case of health risks.

Bentley: ugh I hate Paris Hilton! What a Bimbo, buying dogs from pet stores, she is technically an animal hoarder

But anyway, they are idiots. They don't know a clue about dogs

These dogs are just as special as ones recognised as a particular breed. Mongrels are not clones of the breed that's what makes them sooo clever. If a dog is not needed fior its particular talents as found in breeding then don't have that dog, cause its not a happy dog. Mongrels are happy dogs.

People like things that they feel are "original".

Not to mention all the pet stores that cater to impulse buyers are loaded with them. Not everyone sits down and researches before they get a dog, unfortunately.

Because some people don't care to do the research and believe every word that comes out of their BYB breeder's mouth.

they are mutts, but some people in hollywood made them look like the thing to have. Remember Paris Hilton?

It's crazy to pay a breeder for a dog when there are so many homeless animals out there.

Because we live in a affluent society full of spoiled adult juveniles who have a disgusting case of the "I wants".
