Malware protection.Free editions good?

I have Avast 4.8 free Home edition and want to use a malware like Ad Aware or such,i don't want another antivirus program with a malware protection program. I can use Norton 360 from comcast and delete avast if need be.CNet has free Ad Aware and other jrojan, spyware programs for free so what should i use?Avast has been good in the past or is AVG better,or ?

Also...i now have wireless and i see that the wireless icon is in red,(used to be green)what does that mean?I do get online and surf with no problems. It's a netgear wireless that get's the signal from the house main computer and sends it to mine of which i am on.I see nothing wrong with the wireless setup when i look at it.It was set up properly from comcast but a few days ago it went to a red color.Maybe needs updating?? Thanks for any help.

There's no such thing. Ask yourself this: When is the last time you got a good free meal, a good free plumber or a good free car wash.

People need to eat (be paid for their work). Free versions of software (any software) are either fully functional for a short trial period, or parts of it are disabled because they couldn't sell a "better version" if the free version did it all.

Since even the best (paid for) virus scanners only find 95%-98% out of well over 4 MILLION known viruses, that means there's always around 75,000 to 100,000 or more viruses MISSED by any virus scanner. It's luck of the draw really. That number goes *way* up for free versions of anti-virus software.

Norton and McAfee are probably the worst ones to have because they are the biggest targets for hackers to learn how to circumvent. Personally, I use KAV: http://bit.ly/9RlOaK
