My 14 year old cat is not well.. Help?

She has been lying on my desk for 4 days. yes she eats but only little nibbles. and she drinks but only little sips. Then she sleeps sort of all day and night. she seems to be partly awake lots of the time and sometimes groans when i pick her up. I can still get her to pur. She has not given up on that. she is dribbling and shaky on her back legs. Is there anything that i can do for her to help. She is usually out raging at night and eats like a lioness. she has been like this for 5 days . i do not want her put down. Thanks

Your cat could have a cold. When cats have a cold and cannot smell anything then they will refuse to eat (or eat/drink very little) since they can't smell the food or water. This can cause your cat to be dehydrated. The vet can put your cat on antibiotics and a IV drip (this happened to my cat once) and the cat can get better.

Have you monitored the litter box? If there is not enough urine clumps then your cat is definently dehyrated. Also if your cat is eatting little and not making bowl movements then she could be constipated. The cat will just lay around and groan because it's backed up and it hurts when it gets moved. A DR can prescribe a laxative for a cat but if the laxative doesn't work then I am sorry to say but the cat would need to be put down.

Take the cat to the vet ASAP. Check the litter box because the vet would ask you about your cats bowl movements with those type of symptoms. Good luck and I hope your kitty gets better!

It sounds like something is wrong inside. Maybe a kidney stone or possibly something worse. She groans cause it is painful. She needs a vet though for sure. Getting her put down could be whats best. Why would you wait so long? If it's a money issue, ask your vet if they have payment plans or organizations that could help with the bill.

  • She needs to get to the vet so they can check her out. If they can't figure out what is wrong based on an exam, they may need to do some basic blood work to check her systems. You do not have to put her down, just find out what is wrong so you can help her before it is too late.

    Good luck.

You absolutely need to get her to an emergency vet immediately. She sounds like she's on death's door. She could have been poisoned or have a uterine infection if she's not spayed.

    Take her now!
